Call for Communication

Gisma University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and Ascencia Business School - Center for Applied Business and Management Research (France) are pleased to announce their upcoming international conference on:

“Sustainable Technologies and Innovation for Managing SMEs”

On the 4th – 5th of November 2024

At Gisma’s New Campus in Potsdam - Germany, and Online.

This manifestation aims to bring together professionals, academics, researchers, doctoral / DBA candidates, and students from various fields to discuss and explore the latest advancements and trends in sustainable business practices, innovative management techniques, marketing strategies, entrepreneurial tactics, and the role of information systems in sustainable development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Overview

The integration of sustainable practices and innovative technologies is critical for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to drive economic growth, foster innovation, and contribute to sustainable development. Implementing sustainable practices like energy efficiency, waste management, resource conservation, and responsible sourcing can minimize SMEs' environmental impact while achieving cost savings and improving brand reputation (Ameer & Othman, 2012; Caldera et al., 2019).

In fact, adopting 'lean and green' strategies enables successful transitions to sustainability by addressing enablers and barriers (Caldera et al., 2019). Further, sustainable business models, such as product-service systems, circular economy models, and social enterprise models, offer SMEs opportunities to create value while minimizing environmental impact (Bocken et al., 2014; Yip & Bocken, 2018).

As such, innovative management techniques such as lean management, agile methodologies, and digital transformation strategies enhance business performance through sustainable practices of SMEs (Comin et al., 2019; Fernandes et al., 2023). Similarly, responsible marketing practices, like using eco-friendly materials and digital technologies, help SMEs reduce environmental impact while meeting consumer demand for sustainable products (Bocken et al., 2014; Yip & Bocken, 2018).

In parallel, encouraging an responsible entrepreneurial mindset enable SMEs to develop new sustainable products, services, and business models. Thus, information systems and digital technologies are essential enablers of such sustainable development, facilitating efficient resource management, optimizing supply chain operations, and supporting data-driven decision-making (Fernandes et al., 2023).

By integrating sustainable managerial practices, innovative management techniques, responsible marketing strategies, a responsible entrepreneurial mindset, and digital technologies, SMEs can enhance their competitiveness, contribute to a greener future, and drive sustainable economic growth (Ameer & Othman, 2012; Bocken et al., 2014; Caldera et al., 2019; Comin et al., 2019; Fernandes et al., 2023; Yip & Bocken, 2018).
